Apply your meditation practice.

When we sit down to meditate and do our session, we must remember that whatever we practice is not just contained to that fifteen-minute timer in our bedroom. It may be for some that the benefits of focusing on the breath and opening the mind to insight come naturally, but in the midst of chaos in daily life and occasionally the emotional and intellectual knots we get ourselves into, those benefits become lost to us as we forget about the practice and lose control over which thoughts we give attention towards.

Throughout the waking experience, you must remember your techniques and be rooted in equanimity wherever possible, and especially recall them in times of stress. It is a mistake to leave what you have learnt and experienced at the door the moment your session is finished and immediately give in to your impulses and succumb to your anxieties. The sooner you learn to apply your practice, the more it will become a habit. You must believe in the power of the mind and believe in whatever lends you the strength to overcome the obstacles of this life.

I remember almost exactly a year after I started my daily meditation streak, lil ol me was still getting frustrated and slamming my palm on the desk over getting tilted at a video game. It was at that moment that I realised I was attracting the wrong factors to practice and there was no point in sitting at the cushion daily doing long sessions if that wasn't being taken anywhere. You must keep renewing yourself, to let the ego die and become reborn over and over again like the fleeting phoenix of the soul, and great transformation shall come in the moment of the will.
